Get to know the online dating basics

A lot has changed since the internet came along. There once was a time when if two people liked each other they would simply talk to each other; nowadays all it takes is a short SMS conversation, a couple of clicks, and an emoticon or two and any number of physical interactions can occur.

But why do people seek this method of dating? A lot of it boils down to how dating usually begins: with nervous stammering and a lot of self-doubt. It doesn't matter who you are or how confident you feel you are when it comes to talking to either the opposite or the same sex when it comes to pursuing romance, you will get nervous and caught up in your own insecurities.

Thankfully some smart folks have created apps to take the awkwardness out of actual interaction. While some would argue that the awkward beginnings in relationships are when couples learn about themselves, but for those actually living through the opening stages of getting to know someone the anonymity of online dating is a welcome change. When looking for a dating app there are many users out there looking to take advantage of people's desperation so be cautious with whom you chat to. With that said here are some of the better-known apps to use when beginning to date:

Tinder

By using GPS locating Tinder allows users to search through other users facebook profile pics, selecting which ones they like and allowing two matched users to open up a chat room between them.

OKCupid Dating

A mobile port based on the popular dating website of the same name. Users develop a profile to appear more desirable to potential matches and the app boasts having “powerful matchmaking algorithms” to help users find people. Essentially the app is a dating-geared version of facebook.

Krush

Krush works a little differently to regular apps in that it delivers a batch of ten “friends of friends” daily and you then anonymously like or reject the daily dates. Krush is linked to facebook which is how you get the list of friends of friends. This may sound limiting but it can work if you have a crush on one of your friend's friends and don't know how to approach them without appearing super-creepy.

As useful as these apps are in helping people connect they should be used in tandem with  going out and meeting people; remember the end result of using these apps is  actual human contact.
